The 24 Stairs That Changed Everything

When we first transitioned the studio to the second floor of this charming downtown Fremont building, we were drawn to its light, its energy, and the sense of possibility it held. What we didn’t fully grasp at the time—what we couldn’t have known—was how much those 24 stairs leading up to our space would shape the journey.

At the time, it seemed there were plenty of accessible yoga offerings in the community, and we genuinely believed people had options. So, we focused on building a space for the practices we knew best. But the community had something else to say. What began as a few karma yoga sessions—intended as a gesture of goodwill—quickly grew into something much bigger. Week after week, students kept showing up… and by summer, Chair Yoga at Birchard Public Library had blossomed into a full-fledged weekly class, generously sponsored by ProMedica Memorial Hospital.

The response was clear: accessible yoga wasn’t just wanted—it was needed.

The only problem? Our building can’t accommodate the continued need for growth.

We’re deeply grateful to the library for their generosity—it’s because of their open-hearted support that we’ve been able to offer Chair Yoga at all. Each week, we haul props, prep borrowed rooms and do everything we can to make it work. But it’s just one class. One beautiful, meaningful class for a population that deserves so much more. And as demand continues to grow, the question becomes harder to ignore: how can we expand when we’re already stretching the limits of what’s possible? Wouldn’t it be incredible to offer more—to truly meet this community where they are, without barriers?

That realization hit hard.

We’ve always believed that yoga is for every BODY. That community means showing up for one another. That healing and connection should never be gated by architecture. And yet, those 24 stairs—those dreaded, unrelenting steps—were keeping people out.

So, we made a decision.

One rooted in love, in listening, and in the kind of growth that only comes from being humbled by your own limitations. The time has come to take another meaningful step forward.

The new space will be accessible—and that means possibility. It gives us the chance to host more classes, welcome more bodies, and share more stories all under one roof. We’re not leaving the library behind; we’re simply creating room to grow. Just open doors, open hearts, and the freedom to expand when the time is right.

This move isn’t just about logistics—it’s about alignment. About making sure our values show up not just in our words, but in our walls. We’re so grateful to this community for showing us what’s possible, and we can’t wait to welcome you into a space that reflects the inclusivity we strive for every day.

Every detail of this transition has been shaped by care, intention, and the belief that everyone deserves to feel seen and supported. We’re building more than a studio—we’re nurturing a home for connection, growth, and belonging.
